The Hercules Anti-Jackknife System saves lives by preventing jackknives.
How it works
Once a tractor trailer reaches 8 miles an hour, the Hercules Anti-Jackknife device will automatically engage a steel bar into the opening of the fifth wheel, which is the pivotal connection point between the truck and trailer. This bar will prevent the swing of the trailer in either direction past the critical angle that leads to a jackknife.
The drivers cell phone connects by Bluetooth to the unit and the driver is notified when the system is engaged. The App alerts the driver if a potential jackknife is in progress giving the driver a warning in order to drive out of a jackknife situation, If the driver is unable to do so the System will automatically prevent the jackknife.
The App also allows the driver to engage the system at a lower speed if desired.
Safety meets innovation
The Hercules Anti-Jackknife system has been extensively tested at the Transportation Research Center in East Liberty, Ohio. In 188 tests, all jackknives were prevented while carrying 80,000 pounds at speeds over 70 MPH.
